Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation
Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation supports the programs and initiatives of the Seattle Animal Shelter by engaging our community, increasing awareness and raising funds.
Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers dedicated to enriching and enhancing the lives of animals cared for by the Seattle Animal Shelter. SASF reflects the support that the Seattle community and Shelter volunteers have for this essential City agency.
The Seattle Animal Shelter helps thousands of dogs, cats and critters every year. SASF will provide the Shelter with a new way to support the many services and programs it provides for animals and the Seattle community, including:
Through innovative community events, outreach programs and volunteer opportunities, we help the Shelter fund creative solutions for immediate needs, pioneer new programs and build on what the City already provides for the Shelter’s current successes.
We’re placing the nation’s most pet-friendly city on the leading edge of humane animal advocacy. We hope you’ll join us!
The Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of enriching and enhancing the lives of animals cared for by the Seattle Animal Shelter through veterinary care and by raising awareness in the community with educational and volunteer programs.
What is the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation’s primary purpose? The SASF was developed to raise funds from corporations, foundations and individuals to ensure excellence in the Shelter’s services and programs.
How will it affect the City of Seattle’s role with the Seattle Animal Shelter? The existence of the SASF does not change the relationship between the Shelter and the City of Seattle. The city will still provide day-to day operational funding for the Shelter. Funds granted to the Shelter from the SASF will provide for programs and services above and beyond what the city provides.
How is it different from the other funds the Shelter currently supports like “Help the Animals Fund”?The funds from the “Help the Animals Fund” are to be used specifically for the care of sick, injured or orphaned animals at the Shelter. The SASF’s funds can be used for a wide variety of programs the Shelter has, allowing a much broader capability of meeting shelter and program needs.
How will the SASF help raise and allocate funds?SASF will conduct traditional fundraising activities including individual solicitations, online or E-mail campaigns as well through special events. These fundraising efforts will raise awareness regarding SASF's mission and the needs of sick, injured, homeless and unwanted animals in the community. The SASF Board of Directors will award funds to the Seattle Animal Shelter through a grant proposal and review process.
Who will manage the SASF?The SASF is managed by an all volunteer board who care deeply about the well-being of the animals at the Shelter and want to provide as much support for them and the people employed at the shelter to take care of them. The SASF currently has a board of 10.
